Authentic Greek Tzatziki — The Only Recipe You'll Ever Need
Tzatziki is not a dip. In Greece, it's a way of life. It appears at every table, alongside every meal, and it's always better homemade. The olive oil stirred in at the end gives it a richness that store-bought versions never have.
Ingredients (serves 6–8)
- 500g (2 cups) full-fat Greek yogurt, strained
- 1 large cucumber
- 3 garlic cloves, grated
- 2 tbsp fresh dill, finely chopped
- 1 tbsp fresh mint, finely chopped (optional)
- 1 tbsp white wine vinegar or lemon juice
- Salt
- 3 tbsp Mr. Papou's 3 Liter Family Tin Extra Virgin Olive Oil, plus more to serve
Instructions
- Grate the cucumber on a box grater. Place in a clean towel and squeeze out every drop of moisture. This is the most important step.
- In a bowl, combine the strained yogurt, cucumber, garlic, dill, mint, and vinegar.
- Stir in Mr. Papou's Extra Virgin Olive Oil — its mild, fruity character from Koroneiki olives blends beautifully into the yogurt without overpowering the herbs.
- Season generously with salt. Taste and adjust.
- Refrigerate for at least 1 hour before serving — the flavors deepen significantly.
- Serve with an extra drizzle of olive oil and a sprig of dill.
